This is not a conventional railway book. It has been compiled in a way in which it will have a much wider appeal. The 270 images reproduced, have been used to tell the story of Carlisle Citadel Station with a minimum of text and where possible contemporary opinion has been quoted.

A wide range of illustrative sources have been used and where views were missing they have been created especially for the book.

This book was first published in 1997, partly in colour. The book was sold out in 2013 but was still occasionally requested.

This 2013 limited digital printed edition is scanned from the original and is printed in monochrome.
