Northumberland AONB astronomy event at Hallbankgate With Border Astronomical Society
Friday 4 March 2016
Brilliant night at Hallbankgate last night. Astronomy session with AONB Northumberland and our Border Astronomical Society. Showers at first, when I gave a Powerpoint show in the village hall, it then cleared by 8.00 pm . Set up two telescopes in RSPB Geltsdale car park and 20 or so people had great views of Jupiter, the Orion Nebula, the Milky Way and a couple of very bright meteors. No Aurora though. It was pitch black, no moon, but we could see each other due to the sky glow, pollution particles in the atmosphere emitting visible light after being in the sun all day. Finished off with tea and choc. biscuits in the village hall.
