Johnny Liar

by John Graham

Many years ago lying contests were held around Wasdale Head. After the death of 'Auld Will Ritson' the contests were no longer held, until Copeland Council revived them.

Tom Purdham, who was a friend of mine, won the contest one year and said that I was a bigger liar than he was, and he suggested that I enter. I did so for the first time in 1990 and as a result it became an annual event that I looked forward to.

As a result of my warped and twisted mind I have been able to create stories almost every year since, all of which are based on true happenings. I have also created verse for special occasions, about people I have known. I decided to have the book published to preserve my work and give my friends and others the opportunity to read, and hopefully enjoy, my stories for years to come.
